Basic Payments

Regardless of the Brexit outcome, the Treasury has said that it will support farmers with direct income support over the next eight years, but with Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) due to end in 2027 there are many on-farm decisions to be made to fill the future funding gap. While we wait for more detail, payments are expected to start decreasing from 2021; with highest payment farms set to see the largest reductions.

FarmView will continue to help farmers understand what the forthcoming changes mean for them and continue to manage annual claims, mapping enquiries and other rural payment issues. Those new landowners wishing to make the most of the next eight years can contact me for a complete service covering qualifying criteria, rural land registry, entitlement matching, RPA registration, claims submission and ongoing advice.

Environmental & Countryside Stewardship

As the classic stewardship schemes (ELS/HLS/EWGS) expire many of you are wondering what to do next and who to contact. Environment Secretary, Michael Gove has committed to funding Countryside Stewardship through to 2024. Although only 5-years in duration, Mid-Tier and Higher-Tier are worth applying for to ensure no gap in funding after your expiry but also to set your farm in good stead for the future Environmental Land Management Scheme (ELMS) which will replace all Pillar 1 & 2 farming grants from 2025. Contact me for help and advice on how to maximise your application score. [Closes 31 July !]

Capital Water Grant

Also part of Countryside Stewardship is the Capital Water Grant. The 2-year agreement can provide items around the farm to improve water quality and put in place measures to avoid diffuse water pollution, and improve farm infrastructure. Items such as replacement guttering, rainwater harvesting tanks, roofs for silage, manure or slurry tanks, yard repair and much more are all available. In addition, if CSF options are linked to land management options within a CS Tier agreement the £10,000 maximum grant limit is removed. Contact me for a farm visit to assess CSF opportunities. [Closes 31 July !]
